B.111 and 3½ Litre Jaguar Compared.

As requested a fully dimensioned drawing has been made for the 3½ litre Jaquar, S.CD.576, and its leading dimensions have been compared with those of B.111 (PD.98). See table attached at end of this memo.

From the comparison the following facts are apparent :-

(1). The Jaquar front wheels are 5.875 nearer the dash, and that is possible as they have no side spare wheel.

(2). Although Jaquar has 4 ins. less wheelbase, because of (1) they have 1.875 more from dash to rear wheels.

(3). Because the rear seat is 3.750 further forward of the rear axle on the Jaquar, coupled with (2) they have approximately 1.875 less knee room for the rear passengers.

(4). Front seat elbow room of B.3 is .500 greater than Jaquar.

(5). Rear cushion width of B.3 between arm rests is 1.500 more, but the elbow room above the arm rests is 3.500 less. The Jaquar body is wider at the rear.

(6). The rear floor levels of both cars are approximately equal, but B.3 is higher overall by the increased headroom and higher seats.

(7). Although the two bonnets in plan are the same width at the dash, which is almost identically placed relative to the steering wheel, and hence the body; the plan taper of the Jaquar is greater due to the shorter distance of radiator to dash (see (1)). This gets rid of the "Ogee" curve.

An increase of width in the B.3 bonnet at the rear end of .250 a wide would make the two cars equivalent.

The bonnet of the Rover type, which is in hand for B.3 will be equivalent to the Jaquar.

The wider rear width of the Jaquar body also helps to remove the "Ogee" curve of the scuttle.
