Handwritten: X7250 / X7260 With reference to the question of appearance of this radiator the position now is that we are authorised to build up a radiator with tubes .5" shorter than at present (that is to say 4.25" instead of 4.75") with the matrix raised .5", but no alteration to the top tank. The shutters are to be exactly like EAC. 8. but as much as possible is saved in the recess at the rear of the radiator. As this latter however is only .250" it does not look as though very much could be saved. It is intended that this radiator should be tested for cooling efficiency. Allowing however for the increased height of .5" the area to cooling is about 10% less than the original EAC. 8. and is even about 5% less than 'W' series. The Exp. Dept. agree that it would be worth while to test a smaller tube made to give us a greater area with a view to regaining some of this lost area. We have therefore made N. sch. 2380. (herewith) and suggest that two radiators should be built up, one with the standard tubes .5" shorter, and the other with tubes 6.25 m/m dia. expanded to 7 m/m at the ends. With these smaller tubes we reckon that we have a gain in area of 6 1/2% over EAC. 8. original, and of 12 1/2% over 'W' series. The whole of the bonnet is raised .5" to correspond with this radiator, and of course also the dash.
