TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} ) FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M14.3.27. X235 X8540 SHOCK DAMPER WHEN USED AT REAR. With reference to the question of increasing the bearing area we send herewith N. schs. 2378/9. shewing proposals for turning the spring loaded gland round the other way. The proposal on N. sch. 2378. only alters the body casting by turning off the spigot, but on N. sch. 2379. we have suggested some alterations to the casting such as lifting the filler cap face another .050 in order to restore the strength over the bearing. In this case we suggest that the body should be bored rather larger, and the bush thickened. We hope it will be found possible to use a shaft case-hardened on the bearing surfaces, as we feel sure this would very much increase ability to stand wear. As we do not exactly know what is the state of the work in progress we should be glad if BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} would tell us whether we can alter the shock damper castings at this stage or not. Will you kindly send us an extra print for R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} RECEIVED | ||
