To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. 1328 10HH Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.7/MH.{M. Huckerby}21.1.38. B.50 THERMOSTAT. As discussed with Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} we think that in order to reduce cost and complication of connecting pipes etc., it is worth considering the scheme whereby the thermostat bypass is combined with the hot spot feed in one line - provided that the size of the line is kept equal to the cross sectional area of a 5/8" or if possible 3/4" dia. hole, there is no objection to this arrangement. The thermostat unit itself should be that instructed for B.III since it has been decided that the Smith's "Standard" unit (in cast iron) will add too much weight to the engine.
