Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. C.S. Steadman. The writer regrets the delay in answering the query raised in your letter of the 8th inst., but has only just returned from the Midlands. The Thermostat you require is nearly completed and we hope to despatch same tomorrow. With regard to the last paragraph of your letter it is possible for us to get the range you require, namely, 10°C./11°C. but we would not say that this is always easy without making a modification to the bellows housing, which, unfortunately, would be a departure from standard and increase the cost. We have been endeavouring to get a satisfactory job using a standard product, which we believe is also your wish. The test on the Thermostat which we have nearly completed shows that the valve cracking open at 79°C. is full open with 5/16" lift at 93°C. which is a 14° range, and quite frankly whilst we agree that 10°C./11°C. is better, 14°C./15°C. is quite good. We are nevertheless continuing to experiment but trust that the sample we are sending tomorrow will enable you to conduct your test. Yours faithfully, p.p. S.
