Bailey - Chief Engineer} C.K. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/F6.3.20. X 3468 RE. FAILURE OF UNDERSHIELDS ON CARS ON TEST. X 2846 We are still being put to a considerable amount of delay and expense with cars on test, owing to the undershields having to be returned to the works for a new cut-out pocket to be fixed, the existing one having been burnt out. This weakness I have brought forward on several occasions and was given to understand that action had been taken for the pocket to be fixed differently, also for consideration to be given to alter the position of the present cut-out so as to avoid this. We are still receiving cars on test with no alteration in this respect, and are still inconvenienced by the delay and expense caused in continually returning undershields to the works to have the pockets replaced, owing to the above fault on test, which only ensures the car being delivered satisfactorily, but it will not remain so for long when in customers' hands. Apart from the delay and extra cost entailed through the present weakness, I am anxious to justify ourselves that action has been taken to permanently overcome this trouble, when we start receiving complaints.
