To us. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
E6/M/12.7.23.
GOSHAWK 11. TIMING. X.3942.
Referring to the diagrams of comparative timings you left at WW. particularly to the one giving the average timing for Goshawk 11. present standard, as follows :-
(see original for sketch)
I cannot understand why this falls so far short of the diagram marked fig.3 on LeC.1044., which should be the correct timing with 10 m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} clearance. This particular timing is as follows :-
(see original for sketch).
and is obtained with the use of the official valve lift curves - LeC. 1048 and 1050.
I find that if we attempt to produce a new exhaust cam to give the desired improved timing which is as follows :-
(see original for sketch).
we actually have to make a cam with a shorter duration of lift than LeC.1050. at 10 m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} clearance. I also find that we have to make an inlet cam to give a shorter duration of lift than LeC.1048.
If you know of any explanation for this fairly considerable difference between what the engine is, and what it should be, would you kindly let us know at the earliest possible moment.
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
