SS.{S. Smith} ENGINE MOUNTING. X7005 X7380
X235

We seem limited because of the front hydraulic dampers. I suppose they cannot possibly be outside the frame where they would be more accessible and less in the way of the above.

For holding the engine endways I like better the single angle as E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} suggests. I thought of this, but on paper it looks better than in mind.

We ought to get going quickly with any suitable rubber. Our scheme is good in that the correct thickness of rubber and length of ferrules should give uniform results.

I do not know what area and thickness of rubber is best, and have guessed at the .250". I think Derby's .125" too thin. It will depend also upon its area and hardness, although one would think hardness would not vary much from that used for road spring mounting and outer covers of tyres, or its life would be short.

Apparently there is not much trouble with the lateral stiffness of the frame that we tried to assist in our original SS.{S. Smith} but the trouble is torsional which the four feet or continuous mounting assists. We want to try two more feet (six in all) behind the gearbox, of similar flexibility.

I am inclined to think we should try an 8" frame without tie rods. It might be better and simpler, and reduce the obstructions to the exhaust system.

The 20HP. four feet scheme should be moving. Could the rear feet be on the flywheel case?
