With reference to your memo Sr/VA.7/GM. 2.4.35. we certainly feel that your diagnosis of the trouble is correct, but we would like to examine the broken fan to see where the fracture took place. Would you, therefore, kindly return same marked for my attention. We have come to this conclusion because we note that you have already changed the studs from ¼" to the larger size, and therefore it is most unlikely that failure would take place starting initially with a stud, as we feel we have a good factor of safety on the studs since increasing the diameter. Recently we have also changed the material of the centre part of the fan making it in nickel steel instead of mild steel, and, of course, giving it a corresponding change in heat treatment. We are particularly interested in examining the fan to see whether it is the centre which has failed, because if so it may mean changing all those in France. BY.{R.W.
