Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X766 To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from CJ. Copy to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Re Over-Heating. CJ6/E30/4/25 Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s memo. to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG28/4/25 concerning overheating on 40/50 HP cars, as R.{Sir Henry Royce} has now agreed to the elimination of the choke wax valve in the exhaust and that we should depend upon the heating of the throttle by the old system of hot water, it would appear necessary: 1. To make arrangements to bring about this change on all the front wheel chassis which have been issued. (You are going into this.) 2. To effect this change on the EAC chassis before any of them are issued. 3. To ascertain what is the best form of louvre. 4. To arrange to fit bonnets with this louvre on all EAC chassis irrespectively of the fact that they may be intended mainly for home use. 5. To introduce a radiator one inch higher on chassis V.{VIENNA} No.301 and subsequent chassis. We cannot introduce the one inch higher radiator earlier than this as apparently it involves a wider dashboard and, therefore, bodies intended for the first series of 'V's would not fit on to chassis having a higher radiator and broader dashboard. We shall, therefore, have to give notice to coachbuilders that they should not build bodies for chassis 'V' 301 and onwards until they obtain new coachbuilders' drawings. There is one point about which the Experimental Dept. seem to be seriously at sea. They appear to think that owners will not mind if the water in their chassis boils so long as we can persuade them that there is no harm whatever in the water boiling. Owners will always object to a car in which the water boils. Owners also will always have great anxiety when the water boils as they will not be quite certain how long the water has been boiling and how long they can continue to | ||
