Dear Sirs:

For the attention of Mr.Grylls.

With reference to your letter of the 14th instant, you will be aware that in the meanwhile the jacks returned by you have been sent back after modification, and all the jacks are now fitted with the latest type spring.

With regard to the leakage of which you complained, we cannot understand how this occurred, owing to the fact that every jack was tested at a pressure of 2,000 lbs per square inch for two minutes, and this was done not only at the end of the stroke, but also half way down the stroke. We would, however, draw your attention to the fact that attempts have been made to remove the foot portion of these jacks, as evidenced by the marks where they have been held in a vice, and we think that possibly the jacks may have been stripped in your works and incorrectly assembled.
