( IO ) Slight oil leaks from the N.S. axle tube flange and differ-ential casing flange and from the pinion housing flange were noted at 10.000 miles. All nuts were found to be tight. One of the bolts fixing the outer race of the roller bearing on the pinion was found to be loose. Bad rattles from the driving dogs were experienced. RADIATOR & FITTINGS. LOP. EB.1224. Complete to above LOP incorporating:- 52 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} mark VI. matrix with .005" waterways and .003" airways. Ex.26316/7/8/9/20/21 Wider Support Angles in mild steel. RADIATOR SHUTTERS. Dummy Shutters supplied by Messrs. John Marston & Co. The absence of shutter rattles on cobbles was much appreciated, this being a bad fault with standard shutters. The appearance was criticised on account of the gap down the centre, showing a strip of matrix 3/8" wide. An improved arrangement of dummy shutters has now been produced in which this fault is overcome. The cooling properties were the subject of extensive tests at the Montlhery Autodrome by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. and have been dealt with in a seperate report. No troubles were experienced with the radiator and shutters. BUMPER BARS. Seperate Rear Bumper at each side. Special Front Bumper fitted with compressed rubber washers for securing lead weights, incorporating:- Bm.284 Stud. FB.2584 Nut. The rear bumper bars were continually working loose, and the stud in the N.S. dumb iron broke off. The attachment of these bumpers to the rear of the frame is not up to the job. The modified fixing of the ends of the front bumper to the weight assemblies gave no trouble. It was more satisfactory than any previous Bentley front bumper bar on 15.000 miles test. The method of assembly is also simpler and better. Handwritten text: F.{Mr Friese} Dodd. What is this fixing? Have we invented it or is it a Coachbuilders standard? | ||
