TOLWORTH, Surrey.
Dear Captain Frazer Nash,
I was told that your car would not run satisfactorily on Pool petrol and our tester, who came down with Mr. Evernden on April 21st., informed me that it was quite normal, i.e., the present Pool petrol has an octane value of about 72 and therefore one would expect slight detonations in picking up full throttle from 10 to 20 m.p.h.
The best way to get rid of detonations if you really object to them is to alter the ignition setting.
Yours sincerely,
