- 2 - BY19/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 15.12.26. 4. Braking on front wheels. You have had in mind the question of retrospective action in the direction of reducing the percentage of braking on the front wheels by 25%, that is, reduce it to 3/4 of the figure at which it at present stands on cars delivered. The scheme you are trying out is for C.2. Series, and is not suitable so far as the particular parts are concerned, for chassis delivered. It would mean we would have to get out a scheme for the present type, that is, up to C.2. Series, of equalising gear, and modify the undershields to suit same, and this may not prove to be a very easy job. 5. Auto Advance. Is it proposed to correct the automatic advance. In any case it seems to me this is a small matter, being more a question of the springs used in the unit than anything else. 6. The use of the special restriction valve in the elbow, giving better running at slow speeds. This is being done at the moment when complaint is made, but not otherwise. Is it considered necessary by you for all cars. I think the foregoing covers all the proposals. We are giving costs to BJ. for Items 1, (a/-, b/- and c/-), Item 2, (a/- and b/-), and Item 6. These three items deal with all the complaints BJ. has particularly interested himself in, namely:- i. Steering effects which are undesirable. ii. a/- Firing in the exhaust. b/- Engine stopping when it should apparently continue to run, by the governor setting. iii. Irregular slow running based on Autovac effects. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
