RETROSPECTIVE IMPROVEMENTS ON PHANTOM.

As I understand the above position, it pans out as follows:-

1. a/- Modifying the worm and nut in the existing steering boxes for "B", "C" and "D" type.

b/- Adding stays to steady the column sideways, for "C" and "D" type. Possibly this item you may not think is necessary.

c/- Improvement to the side steering tube by using 1500 lbs. springs similar to the scheme to which we are modifying chassis at the moment when complaint occurs.

2. a/- Modification to the throttle by the addition of roller bearings on all cars delivered without same, also modification to the closing angle of the butterfly so that the angle is increased from 12° to 18° on all cars.

b/- Fitting of ball bearings to the throttle governor.

c/- It is still an open question in my mind whether it is necessary to add ball bearings to the throttle control shaft on the first 350 chassis which were delivered without this improvement. The doubt I suggest that this is necessary is based upon the fact that since you have got the throttle operating down to a fraction of its previous figure, you in consequence have already decreased the load on the plain bearings for the throttle control shaft, and it is quite feasible that a combination of this type, that is, ball bearings on the throttle control shafts, and roller bearings on the throttle, would not materially differ in its final action from the present scheme.

3. There is no suggestion at the moment to fit hydraulic shock dampers retrospectively to all cars fitted with four wheel brakes. I take it you are content on all cars delivered where straight sided tyres have been used and the pressures were kept up in the front tyres.
