Both units of the double pump failed due to the
pole pieces fouling. The trouble was accentuated by excessive
heat. This was investigated, together with vapour troubles
by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/J.B.Dixon, and is dealt with fully in a seperate report.
The only advantage of the third pump was a standby in case of
mechanical breakdown of the other two. It had no other
advantages, and was noisy. With vapour present, the three pumps
were considerably more noisy than the double unit, and were no
more effective in dealing with the vapour.

Harrison Car Heater.

Light water-hammer noises were complained of.
These were overcome by turning the taps off slightly. This had
the effect of making the left hand side of the matrix consider-
ably hotter than the right, so that an air current of uniform
temperature could not be obtained.

The position of the heater in front of the passenger's
knees was bad, as the heating effect was too localised.
