Wraith II Shock Dampers.

We send herewith N.Sch.4714 showing the modifications required to the Phantom III damper control unit for the Wraith.

The modifications are as follows:-

(1) The filling plug has to be closer to the damper body. A different cover is therefore necessary from that of Phantom III.

(2) There is not room to assemble the unit on the gearbox when in the frame with the present length of extension for the governor valve. However, the type of valve now used permits of a reduction of length as we show.

(3) Single start oil retaining screw threads are used on the spindle instead of multiple start threads.

(4) The end cover retaining bolts are both of the countersunk head type instead of one being countersunk and one cheese headed as before to locate the cover in one position. This location is now done more cheaply by offsetting one of the four main bolts.

(5) A lug is provided for the clutch pull off spring.

All of the above except (1) and (5) can be applied to the Phantom III in due course, and in the case of (5) to avoid separate casing castings the lug should be machined off.

N.Sch.4714 herewith.
