Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RE. ACCIDENT TO 32.EX. We forward you an account of the accident to 32. EX. I was the passenger at the time and fully endorse all that the account states. It appears that the N.S. front spring of the lorry broke, pulling his steering over to his wrong side thereby hitting the tail of 32 EX. in fact the driver of the lorry admitted that it was completely out of control. Walsh did every-thing possible to avoid a collision, but had no choice between a telegraph post on the right or the lorry on the left. We managed to get the car towed to Argenton Station that night. I gave the car a thorough examination next day, and phoned Sr. at Paris. We decided that although the car could be made runnable at the Depot, it would not be safe enough to run as a continuation of the 10,000 miles test. He also pointed out that the duty and freightage on the large quantity of spare parts required would exceed the expense of sending the car back to Derby by train. The car has therefore been put on a wagon, and is proceeding to Derby via Boulogne as quickly as is possible. The following is a brief list of the main parts damaged:- Rear Springs & Mountings Rear Axle complete with drums, Brake ropes, etc. Two Wheel & Tyres. Propellor Shaft Gear Box Rear Shock Dampers, & Brackets. Steering Box Mounting Petrol Tank N.S. Rear Wing Frame sides. ------------- H.Hamilton H.Hamilton (Signature) | ||
