not the lower notes, arising from the back axle gearing.

We could apply a stronger crown bevel wheel and mounting to the present 25-HP. axle, but this would not give us a hypoid gear, and the benefit likely to be derived from it is problematical. The same can be said of trying alternative gears with coarser teeth. We should expect them to be an improvement, but not so effective as the hypoid gear. The hypoid gear would only be obtained by adopting the Wraith axle as instructed for getting the lower ratio on to the 25-HP. chassis, and it is recommended that this should be pressed on with in preference to altering the present axle.

The scheme is fully detailed and is only hung up at the present moment for fixing the particulars of the gears, the first sets of which will be produced by Messrs. Gleason. This point, however, should be settled shortly.

It is considered that the 20/25 axle while being difficult to produce is not being made to any lower standard as regards noise than formerly, and that changes in bodywork have been responsible for the present complaints. This is confirmed by the results obtained with the test kits.

Gearbox.

The fitting of the anti-rattling device completely satisfies the complaint made regarding rattles.
