RE FRONT NUMBERPLATE "S.S"

It is feared that the position of the number plate in the front of the car as fixed by the brackets on the chassis already delivered will be considered illegal because it is obscured by the front crossmember of the chassis. The brackets are to N.Sch.2761.

This was noticed at W.W. when the first "S.S." was brought down for inspection, and DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} in a written letter to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} of Dec.9th.1928, asked that the brackets for the front number plate be so modified that the top of the plate would be level with the underside of the crossmember below the radiator.

We send herewith N.Sch. 2933, shewing a modified bracket which will drop the plate the required amount. We have also indicated a plate to stop the heads of the bolts from turning.

No doubt you will arrange to change the brackets on the cars already delivered.

DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}

As a result of investigations at Hooper's we think it possible that a position approximately 1" lower still might be preferred, andif that shewn on N. sch. 2761. is not found sufficiently visible, we have indicated by a line where the number plate might be dropped to by setting the bracket.
