Buffer clearance in relation to fitting stiffer springs, following a suggestion by Mr. Royce.

Replying to your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG6.10.24., the stiffer springs fitted in accordance with Mr. Royce's idea would automatically give you a greater clearance, since there would be more positive camber in the normally loaded position. This was the reason for asking for a deeper buffer on N.sch.1845. We think however since going into the matter further that it will be sufficient if we use the same buffer on both types of spring, as though the clearance will be more on the 20%, the max. stress reached should be the same, since they are springs of the same rating, andbeing stiffer this max. stress will be reduced less frequently.
