Dear Banks,

Many thanks for your letter of the 10th., and the information contained therein on the effect of temperature on octane values.

There are several questions on fuels that I would like to talk to you about, and propose to come up to London tomorrow morning (Wednesday 12th.) when we can probably clear up one or two points.

One of the matters I am particularly interested in is the specification and octane values of the two new A.M. fuels which we hear from Wood they have now released as alternative fuels to D.T.D.134. One fuel is supposed to have an improved Octane Value but without the use of lead, whilst the other fuel contains lead. We are anxious to make use of these fuels for our Goshawk engines and should like to know a little more about them.

The reason why we are interested in the effect of jacket temperature on the octane value is with reference to evaporative cooling.

I hope to get into London about 12 o'clock and will come straight along to see you.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
