I have received the following cable from Oy. in which he points out that they are of the opinion that the cylinder knocking is caused by the bore of the cylinder being distorted due to tightening down the holding-down bolts. It would appear desirable to check his results by grinding through a dummy head held down on to the crankcase. "BAILEY BELIEVE PISTON KNOCKS DUE DISTORTION CYLINDER BORE FROM TIGHTENING HEAD stop DISTORTION SUFFICIENT TO HOLD LONG PLUG GAUGE TWO THOUSANDTHS SMALL stop ON THREE CARS GRINDING CYLINDERS AFTER PLANTING BETWEEN DUMMY HEAD AND CRANKCASE OVERCOMES KNOCKING" OLLEY".
