BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8050 E2/M1. 6. 27. PHANTOM - REVISED DRY LINER ALUM: X. 8770 ENGINE. X. 8050 We send you herewith print Lec. 2421 shewing preliminary scheme for the above. We should be glad if you could have cyl. block drgs. made from this scheme so as to give us a helping hand with the design of this engine. As a matter of fact most of the features of the cyl. blocks are shewn, but we wish to see the complete drg. to make sure that all the features embodied in connection with water cooling, etc. are satisfactory. Further schemes will follow in due course giving the remainder of the information in connection with valve gear and head. This drg. shews a 5 to 1 compression ratio for the cyl. head, but we propose to provide means for varying this from 4 1/2 to 5 to 1 without interfering with the turbulence or without requiring a new pattern for the head, by scooping out the combustion space on the push rod side of the head.
