The electrical equipment has been a disappointment. X3485 (1) The ignition make and break was found to have a loose contact. I understand these are now hard soldered. What is competitive practice? I suggest we try:- PLATINUM increased area, thin washer (dished) of spring steel, small box nut carefully screwed up and locked by gentle riveting (after dressing off nearly level). This practice allows replacing without damage to arm as the nut can be split or filed off. (2) DYNAMO. X4383 X4383 A main brush was found badly worn away and refusing to charge. I do not think this was mechanical wear, but sparking through the main brushes being out of position relative to the winding. Test the result of mechanical wear only, and also with current being generated. The speed on this car would be about 3000 dynam. revs. average say from 2000 to 4000. Test at these 3 speeds, find also result if main brushes are given a lead in direction of rotation as 2 pole machine. ARMATURE. By shortening this connection relatively. One main brush has to carry exciting and output current, the other output only. Do they wear or spark unequally? Other people use a softer brush which may spark or wear less. Do you want more angular embrace? Would it be possible to have 50% to 100% more sections in commutator? R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
