GOSHAWK REAR AXLE. X4265
We send herewith N.scheme 1381 shewing the modifications to the rear axle centre casing which Mr. Royce desires, to prevent a repetition of the breakage which occurred in Switzerland. The box is thickened up/all over from .250 to .3 ; the radius at the corner on the L.H. side is slightly increased, and the bolt bosses are lengthened and carried away from the body of the metal so as to prevent the facing of the bolt bosses from cutting into the strength of thecasting, as seems to be possible now. Finally Mr. Royce wishes a spigoted cover on the rear end with a double spigot so as to reinforce the box both in tension and compression.
