Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} x442 BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /Cgh. {W Clough} 5/G. 4.5.34. 20/25 and 40/50 HP. CHASSIS - EXHAUST NOZZLE. On 28-EX. and 21-G-lV. the exhaust nozzle is bolted on to the end of the exhaust pipe instead of being welded on. The object of this is to enable us to supply coachbuilders with exhaust pipes about 9 to 12" longer than standard, so that they can be cut off and the exhaust nozzle fitted in such a position that the latter projects clear of the rear end of the coachwork. For some considerable time coachbuilders have been in difficulty when customers have ordered bodies on which the rear portion is swept back at the rear. In many cases we have supplied longer exhaust pipes to suit the type of body fitted, but this is not always practicable, and E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} agreed to the above proposal which we made to Sales Dept., and the latter are very anxious to get the scheme fitted as soon as possible on production chassis. The scheme was included with the flexible suspension scheme on 28-EX. and 21-G-lV., and although we have delayed the introduction of the flexible suspension scheme, the adjustable exhaust nozzle has been instructed for Phan.ll. S.2. series. We should be glad if you would consider this matter, and let us know if you see any reason why we should not apply the scheme to production 20/25 HP. chassis. BY {R.W.
