COPY c to W Rob8/14.9.36. Re= Chassis No GUL-4 Continental Trials. When in Brussels last week, M.Pisart informed me that he had tried the new 25/30 hp and that he was very satisfied with the car except for the steering which he considered was most unsatisfactory on bad roads. I tested the car myself and find that there is a certain amount of "hit back" in the steering wheel on bad pave roads particularly with the riding control in the soft position. The driver informed me that the car had been attended to in Paris just prior to its departure for Brussels, by Mr.Hancocks, Staff. You will appreciate that the condition of Belgian roads are most severe, and that in order to get more or less comfortable riding it is necessary to run with the riding control in the soft position. This of course, shows up the shocks in the steering wheel while on the other hand the steering greatly improves when the lever is in the "hard " position. When I tested the car, I considered the front tyre pressures were too soft and the rear too hard, I therefore advised the driver to put the front pressures up to 35 lbs and to reduce the rear to 30lbs and to drive where ever reasonably possible with the riding control on the hard side, under which circumstances I do not think anyone but an absolute critic could take exception to the steering. I should be glad to know of any recommendations "Works" are able to give on this matter. | ||
