Further to memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}10/AP.18.1.37. No.5. TEST BED. PHANTOM III. No.14. CONTINENTAL UNIT. Complete Std.'s water flow tests. Following Std.'s water flow test will you please compare two exhaust systems which Whyman will hand you before starting induction comparisons. The following induction comparisons to be taken with regard to depression power and distribution open exhaust. (1) Std. system with heat on hot spot. (2) " " without " (3) Std. carb with the modified hot spot Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}295 Mod.1. This hot spot cannot be heated and compares with (2) (4) If hotspot is promising what extra can be got out of carb. and modified air bend. (5) Hot spot as modified to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}295 Mod.2. which incorporates fitting of 2 - 25/30 Stromberg carbs. ----------------- PHANTOM III. GENERAL. A complaint has been received with regard to overfilling the sump when the oil is cold, on account of the baffling which exists between the position where the filler delivers its oil and the position of the oil indicator float in the lower half. Will you please investigate this and give your suggestions, whether the position of the filler could be moved with advantage, how much we should have to restrict the flow through the filler in order not to overfill or if anything can be done with the baffles. continued | ||
