( 8 ) IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR. DELCO-REMY AS SUPPLIED BY HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WST. This is an improvement on the standard distributor, and no misfires occurred on pick-up such as have been experienced with previous cars. The British made contact points fitted at 3638 miles have given no trouble. Slow running and idling have been good throughout the mileage. FLYWHEEL & CLUTCH. LOP GB.2100 (II" Borg & Beck) New, complete to above LOP incorporating:- N.S.4781 Bracket for Clutch inter lever on Gearbox. Cantilever pedals. N.S.4776 Clutch ope.mechn. Cantilever pedals. I - GB.2187 Inter.Lever. RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}159 Operating Lever to give 11% reduction in pedal pressure Crankshaft pilot bearing type L.J.25-Z ex.B.56.BW.chassis. As mentioned under main bearings, investigation of the balance of these units, together with the crankshaft is required before the reason for the improvement effected by adding the balance weights can be given. The shoulders on the pressure plate had worn recesses in the locating slots in the clutch housing which tended to produce uneven engagement. There was an increase in pedal travel of 3/16" in 5250 miles due to wear in the withdrawal mechanism. The thrust bearing became noisy on first pressure. Examination showed that the ball race had become lumpy and had developed play. The outer race was rather a tight fit in the housing. The ball race was less lumpy when removed than when assembled. It is important that the outer race should be an easy fit in the housing for it to give long service. The propellor shaft damper was removed on taking over the car and transmission rattles starting in 2nd, 1st, and reverse gears were at once in evidence and became steadily worse until a new clutch plate with No 6 Ferodo fabrics was fitted at 10.786 miles. Stronger clutch springs were also fitted, as slight slip had been experienced on violent take up. The clutch was then smooth in operation until near the end of the mileage when slight judders were experienced. Examination showed that oil from the rear engine bearing had found its way onto the rear fabric. An oil excluding lip is required on the clutch. Pedal pressure was light with either set of clutch springs, and the clutch freed sufficiently well, but there was no great margin in the seperation allowed. WATER PUMP. LOP EB.2706. Existing, complete to above LOP - Standard Production. 2 Klingerite Joint Washers. The pump gland was leaking when the car was taken [Handwritten note in the left margin] L.C.
