Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} √9410 Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/NJ21.10.24. E.A.C.III Front Axle. Herewith I hand you copy of letter from Firths, ref.- MMF/WEW, of 20th inst. giving information regarding the 12 springs, 43½" centres, 12½% stiffer type, and the 12 spare main plates .284" thickness, which we received from them yesterday. You will note that each of the spare main plates has been fitted to a particular spring and has been painted with the same number, the obvious intention being that each spare main plate should be ultimately fitted to its respective spring if a change of main plate is necessary. You will note Firths will be interested to learn the results of tests carried out on these springs as soon as the information is available and I shall be much obliged if you will let me have such particulars at your earliest convenience.
