C.from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c.to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c.to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} COPY. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/BJ19.9.19. Vacuum Oil Co.Ltd. Herewith I send you an advertisement, page 85, supplement XV. "The Motor", 17th Sept.1919, which comprises a so-called "Chart of Recommendations". I showed this advertisement to BJ. yesterday and drew his attention to the fact that the Rolls-Royce car appears in the "Chart of recommendations" and Gargoyle Mobiloil "A" is recommended as being the correct lubricant to use for the Rolls-Royce engine. I do not know whether the Vacuum Oil Co.Ltd. consulted us before determining that Gargoyle Mobiloil "A" is suitable for our engine, but I should think it is very unlikely that they did so and in view of the circumstance that, at the present time, Mr. Royce has under consideration the question of what is and what is not a recommendable lubricant for our 40/50 hp.chassis engine, it is very desirable that no unauthorised recommendation of oil which is not officially recognised by us should get into the hands of owners of Rolls-Royce cars. Will you kindly let me know whether you have been consulted by the Vacuum Oil Co.Ltd. with regard to the so-called "Chart of Recommendations", and, in the affirmative case, whether you agreed to their recommending their Gargoyle Mobiloil "A". Will EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} please say whether he has had any correspondence with the Vacuum Oil Co.Ltd. regarding this matter and what was the outcome.
