DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8420 BY2/G.9.1.29. Referring to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M7.1.29. the duralumin forged brake shoe has never been used on production. It was tried experimentally, but at an early stage of the experimental work was replaced by cast shoes. There were two points against it :- 1/- The forgings had to be very much increased in dimensions to enable the material to flow regularly and thereby prevent cracks or folds. 2/- It was very expensive.
