No. 2 SpectreCodename for Phantom III - 10,000 Miles in France. --------------------------------------- Confirming our conversation of the other day on the specification of the car which we hope to send to France as soon as the Phantom type brake adjustment is ready, the modifications require to the car are briefly as follows :- (1) 5" deflection front springs to be fitted and the existing variable rating pots, but without the variable rating pieces. + (2) 7" deflection rear springs. (3) A second R.R. Marles steering to be tried in the car. (4) Engine mounting like No.1 car. (5) Intake and exhaust silencers as on No.1 car. (6) Phantom type brake adjustment. (7) Pedals with increased travel. (8) Front shock absorbers to be brought up-to-date.(Les) With regard to No. 5 unit which is to be fitted to the car, the following modifications are required :- (1) 8 to 1 eccentric ratio silent tappet rockers. (2) Roller tappets to be available, but not fitted until chromium and chilled C.I. tappets have been tried. (3) Short duration camshaft. Finally to be decided on when unit is stripped.
