To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} EY. ORIGINAL EFCL/T12.9.27. TUNGSTEN IGNITION CONTACT POINTS. X2494 We stated in our EFCL/T9.9.27 that we would carefully watch the result of the present (second) test of scrubber without damper now in progress, and if this was consistently good at, say, 3000 miles, we would inform you. Up to the present moment, this has run the equivalent of 3300 miles, and we are pleased to report that it is going particularly well. It is going much better than the previous one and does not present any sign of blue oxidation. There is only the slightest suggestion of a pip and hollow in the centre, so that to all intents and purposes the performance is the same as that of similar points run on the Delco-Remy ignition. We are anxious to get say three sets of contact breakers of this type (scrubber without damper, to LeC.2422) running on experimental cars, but in its present form the L.T. terminal is the wrong side, which makes it rather inconvenient. Can we have very quickly a design which will put the matter right for the cars? We will then urge this through with all possible speed at this end, as soon as received. It does appear to be entirely a question of the way the points meet and part mechanically. I feel there is no doubt of the improvement represented in this LeC.2422 design, but upon further investigation we may discover more in detail the exact reason. Contd. | ||
