To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X5840a E6/M22.4.26. 20 HP. OIL RELIEF VALVE. X.5205 X.5840a We see in the report on the 10,000 miles test 20 HP. chassis that Hancock is again experiencing trouble with the oil relief valve of the std. pattern. We have taken the scheme of original guideless valve proposed for this chassis and modernised it in respect to the details of the valve. A blueprint is attached herewith - LeC.2235. We have also removed the adjustment for the valve spring as you desired no adjustment for the Phantom. With regard to the valve seat we are not sure whether it would be preferable to have this raised above the oil joint face and so avoid milling recesses in the plate, or to do it as the drawing shews.
