Nature of Complaint. | No. of Cars. | Last Qtr's. Total. | Remarks,

Springing Complaints. | W. 24. N. 33. P. 4. / 61. | 44. | Design unaltered. Springing specific-ation has been improved but we shall never please everybody. The Phantom is proving a very difficult car to spring in the case of a few very critical owners. Experience is showing that many of these owners are more nearly satisfied when the spring friction is reduced as far as practical. The action of polishing and greasing the plates will satisfy some owners but we are afraid the reduced friction caused by the presence of grease is not maintained for long, and greasing springs is a big job in these days with booting etc. We are now advising felt pad insertions in the gaiters, which can be saturated with oil from the lubricators, and we hope this may help to overcome harsh riding and also squeaking.

Handwritten: Scheme as on the S.S. now running in France

Servo Jaggers. | W. 9. N. 5. P. 5. / 19. | 30. | On early Phantoms a rubber block is fitted to provide a damping device on the servo shaft. On later cars and present Production a flat spring plate is standardised. Also a friction device to the swinging arm can now be fitted to the older cars.

Steering Joggles and Wobbles. | W. 15. N. 6. P. 3. / 24. | 42. | The various designs on worm and nut, new type side and cross steering tubes, enable us to deal with all complaints satisfactorily. Latest Production chassis appear to be almost free from complaints.
