To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. 600a Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/MH.{M. Huckerby}3.2.38. 26.G.VI RADIATOR, WATER CONNECTIONS & FAN. We are to-day despatching to you by Air Mail the matrix unit which we wish to be run on 26.G.VI car. It has the following new features on it - (a) New filler cap scheme to SCD.422. (b) Bottom tank dip soldered to matrix by makers. (c) Bottom tank outlet to EW.1632 and EB.3626 - tube instead of casting. Will you please fit this unit to 26.G.VI at the earliest possible moment. In order to do so it will be necessary to remove the radiator and dismantle same. The radiator yoke on which the matrix unit rests will require re-drilling to suit the new unit - EW.1619 attached herewith shows correct drilling. It will be noted that the existing yoke has a .875 dia. hole on the off-side at the same position as the .437 dia. hole called for on EW.1619. Will you, therefore, please weld a disc into this hole and re-drill it. If there is any difficulty about getting this welding done, a washer of .875 ext. dia. with a .437 dia. hole in it can be inserted loose into the hole since the securing washer is 1.00" dia. We are also sending with this unit a curved bottom water pipe which should be used with bottom outlet to EW.1632 and a straight piece of hose, as a temporary connection until the final curved hose to EW.1633 and straight pipe to EW.1640 is available. We shall send these out as soon as available. Included also is a "Fero-grip" fan belt which we wish you to fit to 26.G.VI while the radiator is removed. It is extremely important when fitting this belt that it is not distorted in any way. Will you, therefore, not fit same by pulling it over pulley but remove driving pulley while radiator is off and having fitted belt over both pulleys, replace same. | ||
