Dear Sir, I am answering Mr. Crosby's letter to Mr. Robotham who is away from the Works for a week. Mr. Crosby has sent us his drawing of the chassis dynamometer which we return and which we think is excellent. Mr. Crosby asks for an inscription of about 100 words to go with this drawing. Herewith, therefore, a description of uses to which we put the dynamometer, and no doubt you will re-word this to be consistent with the rest of the article. Chassis Road Wheel Dynamometer. The advantages of this type of dynamometer are that a complete car can be rigged up on it in a few minutes, and a power curve taken of the actual horse power delivered at the tyres. Furthermore, the brake is of such a size that it will take a full bottom gear torque on even the largest of cars. Endurance runs on the gearbox, transmission and rear axle are in progress almost continuously, as such testing finds out in a few days all the weak spots. I do not quite know what Mr. Crosby means by an inscription to go with this picture because I think Mr. Tombs has described it in his article. | ||
