re Peregrine.

A meeting was held of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to go over the points raised with regard to Peregrine by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}, and decide what action should be taken. Also to specify what can be fitted to the next Peregrine to go out to France, namely Peregrine 3.

The points criticised are as follows:

(1) Petrol pipe from filter to pump broken. A new pipe has been instructed of more flexible type but the design will be gone over again to make sure that this contingency is fully covered. The banjo on the pump end of pipe should be replaced by a union.

(2) Water loss - Ventilation pipe from radiator requires modification to avoid depression effect at mouth of pipe.

(3) Loss of oil from rear of engine. Breather requires modification to avoid oil being drawn into breather and to create sufficient depression in engine crankcase to counteract bonnet pressure.

(4) High oil temperature - Fit ribbed sump.

(5) Exhaust silencer. Bands for carrying silencer are intended to be spot welded to the shell. Baffles should have 20 to 30 thousandths diametral clearance for sliding under expansion without noise.

(6) Noisy tappets. A better camshaft is now instructed which should meet this complaint.

(7) Loss of clearance of No.6. exhaust valve. This is covered by modifications to valve gear.

(8) Oil swishing out of bottom half - Further tests will be made with the new ribbed sump.
