X4117 To EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/MMJ.3.12.29. With reference to the attached. The chief point of interest is the complaint of 'jellying'. The difficulty connected with this complaint is to find an example to work on. For instance, none of the Expl. cars are sufficiently bad in this respect to be complained of. It is not a complaint which shows up on the production chassis. We are aware of the possibility of this fault occurring, and the problem has been put up to W.W. That is, we have asked for a modified design of frame which does not depend on the engine for its stiffness. There is still room for investigation, however, to prove why cars differ, and we recommend that the next finished car which EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} finds with this complaint we should be allowed to investigate for two or three days. As regards the shock absorbers, it is probable that with the weight distribution on the Prince of Wales's cars a modified setting of shock absorbers would be necessary.
