Wraith Radiator 640 (Experimental Dept.) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.11/M 11th February, 1937. Messrs. Fisher & Ludlow Ltd., Rea Street, BIRMINGHAM. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. R.E. Smith. The writer recently visited your Works and had some extremely successful spot welding carried out on a pair of bonnet side plates, and we are now anxious to determine, in connection with a radiator design, whether it is practicable to spot weld mild steel - approx. 16SWG - to 'Staybrite' stainless steel of approximately 16 SWG. We should be very grateful for any advice you could give us on this subject and would forward sample materials if you consider it worth while. We should also like to know (1) Whether you would be willing to undertake production spot welding of stiffeners to bonnet sides if we required same. (2) Whether you would be willing to undertake as a production job the spot welding of mild steel stiffeners to 'Staybrite' radiator shells if this proves practicable. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
