c to EH. XX4350 H16/EB23620. Laboratory. Re 2 samples labelled "Crude Glycol Liquor" (No.1), and "Trimethyeneglycol" (No.2) which were sent to us by Mr. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Lewis of 37 Marston Road, Knowle, Bristol. The materials have the following physical constants:- 1. 2. Specific Gravity @ 60°C. 1.14 1.06 Specific Heat in the range 60-100°C. .74 .78 Boiling Point Atmospheric Pressure. 136°C. 198-200°C. The addition of an equal quantity of water to No.1 or No.2 reduces the boiling point to approximately 105°C in each case, whilst mixtures of 75% of either and 25% of water give a boiling point of from 110°C to 113°C. No.2 being about 1° higher than No.1. I should like to have your views on the possible use of either of these liquids for cooling purposes. The low specific heat as compared with water is a disadvantage. Herewith enclosed the letter sent at the same time as the samples. I should be pleased to hear what sort of report would be best to give to Mr Lewis. | ||
