APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF MAINTENANCE ENGINEER
TO THE BOROUGH OF SOUTHPORT

Sir,
I have the honour to apply for the position of Maintenance Engineer to the Borough of Southport, and to submit the following statement of my qualifications and experience, together with testimonials and references, in support of same.

AGE AND BIRTH.—I am aged 23 years and 5 months, unmarried, and am a British subject, born in Melbourne, Australia, of English parents, on November 24th, 1908.

GENERAL EDUCATION.—I received a Public School education at “Melbourne” (Melbourne, Victoria), and passed the various qualifying examinations conducted by the University of Melbourne, including the Matriculation Entrance Examinations to both the Universities of Melbourne and Bristol.

UNIVERSITY EDUCATION.—I commenced the study of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol in 1927, and after pursuing the usual three years’ course in that Faculty devoted an extra year to research work in Automobile Engineering under Professor William Morgan. During this period I passed the necessary examinations for the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and the degree of Bachelor of Science in Automobile Engineering of the University of Bristol.

RESEARCH WORK.—During the research year just referred to I carried out, under Professor Morgan, investigations into the practical and theoretical aspects of Carburation, Springing, Engine Balancing, Braking, Supercharging, and allied problems, in conjunction with the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co. Ltd.
