Water pump & drive. to L.O.P. E.70527.
Water pump is fitted with standard lion packing washer. Condition of this is quite satisfactory.

Controls to L.O.P. E.72843 & L.E.C. 2118.
These are in a very good condition.

Induction pipe & carburetter.
Smaller diameter aluminium pipe & bend (water heated) to L.E.C. 2058, otherwise to L.O.P. E.72039.
The induction pipe is in a good condition.
Carburetter in aluminium. Throttle spindle location to L.E.C. 2064. Stainless steel filter stud 160 mesh. monel filter to L.E.C. 2127, otherwise to L.O.P. E.72226. Carburation suffers at the beginning of mornings' run, due to the throttle body being cold. This takes some time before the necessary heat is obtained from the water heated bend, before even running of the engine is obtained. Also, on the road, we at times get bad misfires, due to the heavy petrol collecting in the induction pipe. This is noticed chiefly on an incline with full throttle, at a medium speed. Filter in carburetter not examined, so as to adhere to the Instruction Book.

Calorised Exhaust down-take pipes. E.72868/9/70.
The front exhaust pipe has distorted to such an extent that the pipe leading into the first silencer became too short to make a joint. It has been necessary to rebend the pipe to bring it into its normal position. This has come about due to the shortening of the pipe leading into tje first silencer. This was done to overcome the heavy one silencer best in the exhaust. It will be necessary with this arrangement to fix a definite stop, allowing only for a definite expansion of the pipe. The brazed joint of flange on front exhaust pipe, where exhaust gas is taken at this junction to the carburetter, was found loose, the brazing having given way. It has been necessary to rebraze this joint. Otherwise, the exhaust pipes are in good condition.

Exhaust boxes.
The two end lugs of the boxes have broken nearest the centre of the engine. These have previously broken on other cars on test.

Exhaust silencers.
The rear exhaust silencer is fitted with concentric tubes. The lagging of the front silencer is in a poor condition, the aluminium cover having been torn away from the bands holding same, and allowing the inner lagging to fall away. This should be made of a stiffer material. The rear silencer is in good condition. This is not lagged. Brackets holding silencers are in good condition.

Exhaust cut-out.
New exhaust cut-out operation to E.S. 2012/13.
This is an improvement on the Bowden wire control. We have had no sticking of the cut-out. It has operated satisfactorily.
