84094. Expl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}1/MA. 16th., December 1932. Messrs. Cam Gears Ltd., Biscot Road Works, Luton, BEDS. For the attention of Mr. Pentony. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 15th., ref. RP/333. We do not think you should fit a steering gear to your 20 HP. Rolls-Royce until we have tested the one you are making for us. We should be interested to know how the figures for the reversibility efficiency were obtained. We presume they were taken with shock loads on the drop arm; otherwise the steering would not self-centre. You might be interested to hear that we have had very good results from a Marles Weller steering. We are wondering how the Bishop steering with a less area of rubbing contact will wear compared with the Marles. We regret the delay in sending you the brackets and drop arm but these will arrive shortly. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
