- 11 - BATTERY The battery has maintained its charge and appears to be in a good condition. The distilled water added during the mileage has been 1.5 pints. IGNITION The contact points have had to be reset three times owing to the gap increasing to .027" which advanced the ignition 8.75°. This made detonations worse. The first time of resetting was after 7500 miles, the second time 9350, and the third 14900. LODGE PLUGS We have run 14900 miles on three HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}3 and three HC3 plugs. The plugs have given no trouble in respect of misfires or preignition. They were examined at a mileage of 6744. The electrodes of the HC3 plugs showed more tendency to burn than the thick electrodes HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}3 plugs. The plugs were set with a .020 gap at the points. On examination the greatest gap of the HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}3 was .025 the HC3 was .030. They were reset and examined again after a further 7.872 miles. The HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}3 plugs were again in the better condition, the largest gap being .025. The HC3 was .028 BUTLER STOP LAMP SWITCH The Butler stop lamp switch situated in the frame, gave out. The spring switch blades having broken. This does not seem to be a reliable switch. We had a failure on the Peregrine with this type of switch. RUDGE WHITWORTH ROAD WHEELS We have had no sign of any spokes having become loose or broken. The wheels have remained firm on the hubs, with no sign of knocking as previously experienced. There is no appreciable wear on the coned surfaces of the hubs or the wheel hubs. The hammering on with the heavy copper hammer is not cumbersome, and is fairly easy to manipulate. The amount of tightness is at the discretion of the operator. | ||
