Mr. Keim considered that no criticism would be met with on the score of the general suitability of the design for several years.

It was pointed out in this connection that the tendency of automobile design here is conservative as to basic design, the tendency being all towards rendering the designs better for manufacture and improving details.

It was pointed out that financial considerations made it vitally important that the present car should be manufactured by Springfield for at least two years.

The Committee were of the opinion that we were ill adapted to American conditions in the following:-

(1) Battery position.
(2) Petrol tank filler and gauge.
(3) Starter Motor operation which necessitates putting into neutral.
(4) No mechanically driven tyre pump on the car.

CUSTOMERS DEMANDS.

Mr. Keim pointed out that some customers are demanding certain fittings such as :-

1. A mechanically driven tyre pump.
2. Petrol level gauge.
3. Petrol filler pipe.
4. Inside battery position.

Rather than lose the sale of a car for such additions it was agreed that we should meet the customer as far as possible adding the fittings he demands without guaranteeing them.
