MAGNETO.

Mr. Hives agrees to recommend to Mr. Royce and Derby. the fitting of a Bosch magneto to Springfield built car. He agrees to cable decision on this matter at the earliest possible moment. Mr. Caswell reported satisfaction with a number of R-R cars having run 40,000 miles and upward with this type of Magneto. Also the Bosch Co. will give three years guarantee similar to our own.

SERVICE AS AFFECTING SALES.

Mr. Keim pointed out that competitors compare us unfavourably with intending customers in these respects. It was pointed out that as regards the mechanical part of the car our experience indicates that service is seldom necessary and when necessary, can be taken care of much more easily and effectively than electrical service.

STARTING AND LIGHTING EQUIPMENT.

The demand for electrical service has already been heavy and inherently must be much heavier than mechanical service. It was pointed out that one of our great problems will be taking care of the electrical service.

It was agreed that before 4-EC Car is returned to England, Springfield should fix on to that car all parts which they consider are desirable and are equally as reliable as the present standards. Before the car leaves they will carry out tests to prove that all parts fitted to the car suit the conditions in America. This car will then be returned to England for Mr. Royce to examine and for any tests which may be thought desirable.

CHANGES OF DESIGN.

Mr. Hives appreciates that we are handicapped in our judgement of ordering and production by lack of information in connection with proposed changes in design. He will arrange to send reports showing:-

(1) The new designs received from Mr. Royce.
(2) The new designs got out by Derby.
(3) Experiments instructed.
(4) Experiments produced.

This will, of course, be in addition to the notification of standardized changes.

Mr. Hives asked whether, in the opinion of the Committee the present car would remain readily saleable in this country for some time to come.
