STANDARDISATION of CHASSIS PARTS.
Description of Parts. LONGER SKIRT PISTON.
Origin. To safeguard against development of piston knocks.
Experimental Test Report. The longer skirt pistons have been helpful in overcoming piston knocks. These have been a standard production on Springfield cars for a number of years.
Road Test Report. We have tried five sets of these pistons on the dynamometer and considerable mileage on the road the results have been very satisfactory.

SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | 5-5-31. | Agreed Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}
R.{Sir Henry Royce} | 22.4.31. | Agreed FHR. There have been many modifications to keep the lower part stiffer, such as raising the pin nearer the stiff part and ribs. The lower part of the pistons have always been too flexible. In the face of booms and pistons being the cause, we must be very careful about increase in weight of pistons.
